Spiritual Services

The main philosophy of Spero Hospice NJ is to provide holistic care for both patients and families through our professionally trained team. The spiritual counselor offers necessary emotional and spiritual support before our beloved patient passes, while the bereavement coordinator provides all the needed support for the family afterward. A simple definition of bereavement is "the experience of losing someone important to us. It is characterized by grief, which is the process and the range of emotions we go through as we gradually adjust to the loss." It is natural to go through a range of emotional and physical challenges when you lose someone important, and bereavement can affect everyone in different ways, so there is no right or wrong way to feel.

I'm Samy Estafanos, the bereavement & spiritual coordinator with Spero Hospice NJ. It's a real blessing and joy to be a part of this great team. For 13 months after the passing of our client, a well-organized program of emotional and spiritual support is provided for the family. This program includes a condolence call, a sympathy card signed by the whole team, multiple letters and useful readings, and multiple follow-up calls and counseling sessions. Moreover, visits are conducted to help the bereaved join a support group or meet with a therapist.
